Dr. Jerry Coyne, Professor Emeritus of the Department of Ecology and Evolution, has been elected a Fellow of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry (CSI).
Election to the position is a lifetime appointment, based on outstanding contribution to a scientific discipline, the communication of science and critical thinking, or the skeptical movement. Dr. Coyne was invited to become a fellow for his “commitment to science, rational inquiry, and public education.”

The mission of CSI is to promote scientific inquiry, critical investigation, and the use of reason in examining controversial and extraordinary claims. A program of the Center for Inquiry, a nonprofit educational organization, the CSI was launched in 1976 and publishes the Skeptical Inquirer, its official journal. Some of the founding members include scientists, academics, and science writers such as Carl Sagan, Isaac Asimov, Philip Klass, Paul Kurtz, Ray Hyman, James Randi, Martin Gardner, Sidney Hook, and others.
Congratulations to Dr. Coyne on being elected to the Committee and becoming an “ambassador of science and skepticism”.
